How forceful is the pill as a contraceptive?

i have been put on the pill by my doctor to regulate my period can it still be used as a contraceptive while i am not on my period and how effective is it?

Answers:    The first poster isn't base his/her answer on fact and study. There are risks involved with the pill; in attendance is a risk of DVT and long term users of the pill are at a slightly elevated level of risk from cervical cancer and breast cancer. However frequent studies have suggested that using the combined pill significantly lowers the risk of developing ovarian and endometrial cancer. All risks I have mentioned above increase near the age the pill is taken and the length of time one takes the pill. I reflect the benefits outweigh the risks, but I do feel one shouldn't take the pill for longer than 10 years or former the age of 38...which recent study has also suggested would increase the above risks. The pill offers 99% protection when taken as directed (at indistinguishable time each day and never missing a pill).
I fell pregnant near my first child while on the pill, I was moving house at the time so maybe added stress artificial it as I did not forget to take it, so for me I wouldn't rely on it alone, but it is very successful for millions of people. The health risks involved next to birth control pills is high. I question why your doctor would permit you risk blood clots, stroke and sudden death just for the sake of a regular time of year.
Maybe you should ask your mom if it isn't overkill..
That is why they are called "birth control" pills.

They are 99 per cent effective when used as directed.

The ONLY 100 per cent successful method is abstinence.

ANY TIME you have sex you can bring back pregnant.
.
I was on the pill for 2-3 years and it always worked for me. I get pregnant because i come off the pill for 1 month.

Just make sure you lift it everyday without fail..
Read the instructions.
