Answers:    There aren't really any risks involved, very rarely some ancestors faint, on the plus side you get tea and biscuits!! I provide blood regularly..
First of all - well done for putting yourself forward to furnish blood, it is a very important and time saving thing to do.
It is usual to be worried for the first time, I was terrified, but you will soon discover that in attendance is nothing to worry roughly, the professionals who work for the National Blood Service are brilliant, they are kind and supportive and don't push you into anything. They will take your details and use a small pin prick nozzle to take a little blood from your finger to try-out that you are ok to give on that day.
When you if truth be told give blood the nurse will insert the needle into your arm which will be connected to a daypack into which the blood drains, it doesn't hurt too much, a scratch when the needle is inserted. Someone stays next to you the whole time, talks to you and checks your progress. Take a friend beside you if you are worried, the staff are very welcoming and permit your friend sit with you throughout. Remember, you can ask to stop whenever you want, they won't be mad at you, they want to gross sure you are ok.
Afterwards you get tea and biscuits and the staff check you are ok before letting you check out of as you may feel a little shaky.
Don't worry, you will be in secure hands and you will being doing a amazingly worthwhile and important thing.

Yes, several times through Canadian Blood Services. I be pretty nervous the first time. I'm not sure if the procedure is the same here, but it is probably rather similar.

They get your information, then own you fill out a quick questionnaire to fashion sure your blood should be safe to give to someone else (they theory test it later anyway of course) and do a quick robustness check (blood pressure, pulse, blood iron). Then they sit you down in a reclining chair/stretcher and a nurse comes by to set up the needle. I hardly even felt it go surrounded by. It takes about 8-12 minutes or so depending on the human being. Afterwards you usually feel a little shaky, so they have you sit down for a bit and have a free snack/drink. It go away in a few minutes.

No real risks to speak of. All the equipment is sterile, and they simply use each needle once..
Have a look at the NBS website - they will run through the donation process for you and even own a virtual session online. They can also run through some of potential problems that can arise (e.g. bruising). Have a look here:

I understand that the problems are unusual and most people donate minus problems. I will be donating tonight and I'm the biggest wimp around - if I can do it then anyone can. If you're nervous afterwards I'd say consider making an appointment before you dance as you won't be waiting as long when you get there.

Good luck and I'm sure that you'll be fine..
i donated blood to the red cross. first they took a small blood taster to test for how much iron is in my blood after they asked me a ton of questions about my sex time and background and then blood pressure and a million other things afterwards they had me read a whole bunch of stuff and sign a article stating i told the truth and then they made me lay down because it was my first time. afterwards they gave me a stress ball to squeeze to hold on to theblood flowing and tied an elastic band around my arm and stuck the nozzle in. my blood took alittle longer to fill the pack then most so i was sitting on the bench basically for 20 minutes then they give me lots of sugar drinks and candy and made me sit down for another 10 minutes In honesty I'm not sure if I can donate blood because I have a Kidney problem and my veins are other difficult to find.

But I'm willing and I hope that I can be able to donate blood. That why I know that I'm helping populace and at the same time saving lives.

I hope everything works out for you. Take keeping always..
theres no risks involved but a half pint 2 a pint should b more than adequate if its your first time, our hearts make ten pints of blood per hour and the rest get turned into waste 4 energy and debris products and stuff. shur when your pregnant your heart and body makes a whole blood supply for your babe-in-arms! but go home and rest afterwards, dont exactly go shopping surrounded by town in case u throw a whitener and shaky, its best 2 go straight home and lie down ok. leopard - heart dont make blood, the heart is simply a pump that helps circulate blood around the body. Red blood cell are made in bone marrow, and can last up to 120 days i believe. But yes your body can effortlessly replace the blood they take from you. .
There are no risks. You will be checked that your iron levels are glorious enough to give blood beforehand they take any.

The procedure is fully described here.
